Video Group Clinics
How we can help with video group clinics?
COVID-19 has changed the way clinicians deliver patient care and accelerated the spread and application of digital healthcare and technology.
Working in partnership with NHS England and Redmoor Health, The ELC Programme developed and implemented a spread programme for video group clinics in primary care in 2020, training over 500 teams in less than 6 months.
In 2021, we began working with Welsh Government to spread video group clinics in outpatient settings, and supported redesign of 25 pathways.
Through this work, we have gained unrivaled insight into how to make video group clinic stick in primary, community, specialist and outpatient care settings. We understand the relative and complimentary benefits of F2F and video group clinics. We can advise on the best approach for your particular pathway. We also understand how F2F and video group clinics can be combined to maximise quality improvement, access and efficiency.
From 2023 onwards, all ELC training and practice development support programmes help you to introduce both F2F and video group clinics.
Getting started with video group clinics in primary care.
Video group clinics offer primary care a safe and sustainable solution that does not depend on practices having the right estate. For people who work or have mobility issues, including housebound patients, video group clinics offer improved access and the benefit of peer support to help combat loneliness and social isolation.
If you are looking to introduce video group clinics in primary care, we are the experts you need.
- Save clinician time: group clinics save significant clinician time. A nurse can undertake up to 8 diabetes reviews in less than 1 hour instead of 8 x 20 minute one to one appointments. That is a time saving of 100 minutes per clinic
- Improve QOF achievement: peer-reviewed publication found that group clinics improved QOF compliance by 18% after 12 months
- Improve access and deliver extended hours appointments: group clinics accelerate access to QOF reviews for patients and free up clinician time for unplanned care and urgent appointments, thus reducing wait times. Group clinics delivered during extended hours can help you maximise the number of appointments you offer
- Overcome estate limitations: video group clinics offer flexibility to practices with limited consulting space on site and enable you to expand your consultation space virtually at no cost to the practice
- Restore flexible working and joy to clinical practice: keeping our staff well is key. Video group clinics support flexible home working and evaluation has repeatedly found their restore joy to clinical practice and energise clinicians, which supports retention during challenging times.
Getting started with video group clinics in specialist and outpatient care.
Video group clinics offer specialist and outpatient teams a safe way to increase digital and reduce face to face outpatient appointments and support those affected by delays in their treatment through a sustainable solution that does require a clinic room on site.
For people who live a long way from the outpatient clinic, those who work or have mobility issues, including housebound patients, video group clinics offer improved access and the benefit of peer support to help combat loneliness and social isolation.
